API Keys

API keys allow you to interact with the TipPanel API programmatically. You can use the API to integrate TipPanel with your own applications or third-party services.

Managing API Keys

Creating an API Key
  1. Go to your Profile page
  2. Click on the API Keys tab
  3. Click Generate New API Key
  4. Enter a description for the key (e.g., "Website Integration")
  5. Select the permissions for the key:
    • Read: Can only read data
    • Write: Can create and update data
    • Delete: Can delete data
  6. Click Generate
  7. Copy the API key immediately (it will only be shown once)
Revoking an API Key
  1. Go to your Profile page
  2. Click on the API Keys tab
  3. Find the API key you want to revoke
  4. Click the Revoke button next to the key
  5. Confirm the revocation in the confirmation dialog

Once revoked, the API key will no longer work, and any applications using it will lose access to the TipPanel API.

Important: When you generate a new API key, it will only be displayed once. Make sure to copy it and store it securely. If you lose your API key, you'll need to generate a new one.

API Key Security

API keys provide access to your TipPanel account, so it's important to keep them secure:

API Key Security Best Practices
  • Never share your API keys publicly or commit them to version control systems
  • Store API keys in environment variables or secure configuration files
  • Use different API keys for different applications or services
  • Grant only the permissions that each application needs
  • Regularly rotate your API keys (generate new ones and revoke old ones)
  • Revoke API keys that are no longer needed
  • Monitor API key usage for suspicious activity
Warning: If you suspect that an API key has been compromised, revoke it immediately and generate a new one. Compromised API keys can be used to access your account and data.

API Usage

You can monitor your API usage to ensure you're not exceeding any limits and to identify potential issues:

Viewing API Usage
  1. Go to your Profile page
  2. Click on the API Keys tab
  3. Click View Usage next to an API key
  4. You'll see a breakdown of API requests by:
    • Endpoint
    • Method (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE)
    • Response status (200, 400, 401, etc.)
    • Time period (daily, weekly, monthly)
Note: API usage limits depend on your subscription plan. Free plans have limited API access, while paid plans have higher limits. See the Subscription page for details.
